Return to South Bay Steel United Preseason Camp

The camp will be split into two sessions. The morning session will take place from 9am-12pm at North High School (3620 W 182nd St., Torrance, CA 90504). Throughout the morning, coaches will work with their teams on the following:

  • Technical Skills
    • Focusing on touches on the ball. We will improve the player on all aspects of ball control: receiving the ball, moving with the ball and keeping the ball away from the opposition. We will work on both feet and all surfaces needed to touch the ball.
  • Midfield Play
    • Aimed at creating the perfect midfield player. We will work on combination play to receive the ball and to go forward. We will also work on small group tactics with and without the ball.
  • Defending
    • We will run through the techniques of defending. We will work on 1v1 defending as well as small group defending. We will work on the 3 P's: Pressure, Patience and Position.
  • Attacking and Goalscoring
    • Focusing on attacking play: dribbling at defenders and attacking runs to get behind the opposition. We will work on different situations in the final third: 2v2s, 3v3s, and Overloads. We will also work on the techniques of shooting the ball: different kinds of shots, taking shots on the run, on the turn, and from different angles with both feet.

Steel United highly encourages versatility between all players. We want to improve overall soccer skills, rather than specific positioning. Therefore, these focuses are aimed to improve the overall athlete.

The second session of this camp will take place 2 of the days, from 6:30pm-9:30pm at Zamperini Stadium (2125 Lincoln Ave., Torrance, CA 90504). This session will focus on game play. Teams will get with their coaches and scrimmage other teams during their regularly scheduled practice time.
